Who Owns the Stones, BigCi Artist Residency (Blue Mountains)

Picture
Residency open day where the local community was invited to engage through an open studio and artist talk.
During my residency at BigCi, I created a new body of work “Who Owns the Stones”, looking the relationship between exploration and the urge to dominate wild places by mapping, claiming and naming.

This was expressed through a series of paintings, and installation where graphic marks are imposed on top of the landscape, exploring how cartography and drawing imaginary lines on to space allow us to understand space, possess, tame, and inhabit. The glass walls of the residency space provided the perfect surface to explore drawing cartographic lines on top of the landscape.
